A new rapid tooling machine that for the first time makes it
possible to produce 100% dense metal parts from customary metal
powder.
The parts or especially tools are built layer-by-layer (30 µm
thickness) known from other rapid prototyping methods.
In the process the used metal powder (e.g. stainless steel 1.4404)
is locally melted by an intensive infrared laser beam that traces
the layer geometry.
It is possible to build the finest details like thin vertical
walls of less than 100 µm tickness. Directly after the production
process the manufactured parts or tools show a surface roughness
of approx. 10-30 µm for Rz.
